About Humainify

An organisational consultancy
for Australia's health
and community sector.

Co-founded by Trent McHugh and Cathy Gray, Humainify is an organisational consultancy for Australia's health sector, NFPs, and community services, built on the HEART Framework to support workplaces where people and performance can thrive.

Why We Exist

Built from two decades of practice

Most AI consultants arrive from a technology background. Most wellbeing programs are disconnected from strategy. And most leadership frameworks have never been tested inside a complex service organisation under real pressure.

Humainify was built by people who came from neither of those positions, having spent decades inside the kinds of organisations they now work with. That experience showed something consistent: organisations with genuine mission and committed people were still struggling. Not because they lacked good intentions, but because their cultures, systems, and leadership weren't built to hold up under pressure or change.

The arrival of AI made that gap both more urgent and more consequential. Humainify was the response: a psychosocial safety and AI readiness consultancy grounded in evidence, anchored in the human experience of work, and focused on supporting meaningful, measurable improvement over time.

The Team

Meet the founders

Two practitioners. Twenty-plus years of combined experience. One shared belief: that sustainable change only happens when people, strategy, and technology are held in balance.

Trent's career in health and community services spans twenty years, from frontline practice through regional management to executive leadership. That arc gives Humainify its core grounding: the ability to understand what change looks like on the ground, and what it actually takes to lead it from the top.

As a certified business advisor accredited through the Institute of Advisors, Trent applies formal strategic frameworks alongside deep sector experience. His MBA and two decades of lived leadership inform his work as an organisational consultant for NFPs, health organisations, and community services, helping them build capacity to sustain improvements.

Trent founded Humainify because he kept seeing the same pattern: AI and change initiatives failing not for technical reasons, but because the human foundations of culture, trust, psychological safety, and alignment weren't there to support them.

Cathy co-founded Humainify to bring strategic rigour to the human side of organisational change. With a background spanning business transformation and leadership development, Cathy has spent her career working at the intersection of people, strategy, and systems across health, NFP, and community service sectors, helping leaders build the capacity to sustain transformation long after an engagement ends.

Her work in leadership development shapes Humainify's coaching and advisory approach: the belief that lasting change comes from building genuine capability in leaders, not delivering external solutions that disappear when the consultant leaves. That philosophy runs through every Humainify engagement.

Cathy's experience in AI integration brings the strategic lens that helps clients move from awareness to action, translating complex technology trends into practical, human-centred plans that organisations can actually implement.

Our Framework

The HEART Framework

Our proprietary framework integrates occupational health psychology, engagement science, and strategic management into one measurable system. Every Humainify engagement is built around its five pillars, because sustainable change requires all five to work together.

Health

Prioritising physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing as the foundation of organisational performance. Wellbeing isn't separate from results — it drives them.

Engagement

Fostering motivation, purpose, and genuine connection so people bring their best to work. Engagement is no longer about perks — it's about meaningful work and real recognition.

Alignment

Ensuring individual roles connect to organisational vision and values, so effort isn't wasted and every person understands how their work contributes to the whole.

Resilience

Building the capacity to adapt to stress, uncertainty, and rapid change. Resilience is learnable, and teams that build it recover faster and innovate more readily.

Trust

Creating psychological safety, transparency, and credibility in leadership. High-trust organisations move faster, retain talent longer, and adopt technology more successfully.

Our Approach

People first. Evidence always. Practically sized.

We anchor everything to legislation, peer-reviewed research, and Australian business data. We work with small to mid-sized organisations because that's where the gap between AI adoption and people-readiness is greatest.

What we anchor to

  • Legislation: WHS Digital Work Systems Act 2026, Safe Work Australia framework
  • Engagement research: Gallup Q12, Harvard Psychological Safety (Edmondson)
  • Trust research: Brown, Covey's Speed of Trust
  • Business evidence: PwC, Deloitte, EY Australian benchmarks
  • Wellbeing science: WHO occupational health, AHRI workforce data
Our Experience

Twenty years inside the sector

Humainify's depth comes from experience at every level of the health and community sector, from frontline practice through to the executive table. That breadth is the point.

Health & Community Services

Deep experience across community health, aged care, disability support, mental health, and allied health — from small community providers to large, complex service organisations operating across multiple regions.

NFP Leadership & Governance

Understanding of what it takes to lead a not-for-profit: the mission pressure, lean resources, board relationships, and the unique culture that makes them work. We've operated inside these organisations, not just observed them.

Change & Transformation

Experience guiding organisations through significant change, including growth, digital transformation, and the kind of structural and cultural shifts that require sustained, people-centred leadership to hold together.

Frontline to Executive

Our perspective spans every level of the sector: direct service delivery, operational management, executive leadership, and strategic advisory. That range is where Humainify's practical grounding comes from.

What We Believe

Our principles

Clarity before complexity

We start with the simplest useful thing. We don't overwhelm organisations with frameworks and jargon. We give leaders a clear picture of where they stand and one practical next step.

Evidence, not opinion

Every recommendation we make is grounded in research, legislation, or measurable business data. We don't trade in gut feel. We trade in things you can take to your board.

Human first, always

AI is a tool. People are the point. Behind every metric is a human being: a team member, a carer, a volunteer whose experience at work matters deeply.
